Basecamps: your stays, summarized
BorderBudget notices where you spend time and builds a Basecamp card for each place you settle: days spent, local budget performance and the work spots and medical pins you have vetted there.
Lifeline: a plan for the day your phone disappears
Lose your phone abroad and you lose your contacts, your bookings and your way to prove who you are. Lifeline lets you prepare an emergency card before you travel, then open it from any borrowed phone with a share code and PIN. No app and no login needed.
- Where you are staying, trusted contacts, medical basics, insurance and phone details on one card
- A second private PIN protects the most sensitive fields, such as booking references and your phone's IMEI
- Local emergency numbers and your trusted contacts, even offline and signed out
- Free for everyone, and the card page works in nine languages
Lifeline is a convenience, not an emergency service, and it cannot contact help for you. Emergency numbers can change, so confirm them locally.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is BorderBudget?
BorderBudget is a travel app that overlays a map with crowdsourced, real-world data: airport and border wait times, medical procedure costs, work-friendly spot ratings (WiFi, noise and outlets), rental listings and reviews, and saved neighborhoods. It also includes trip budgeting and visa-compliance tracking, including a Schengen 90/180 counter.
Is BorderBudget free?
Yes. New accounts get a full-access trial, and after that you keep a permanent free tier: your current trip's budget, the current month's expenses, and all crowdsourced map data (work spots, wait times, medical costs, and contributing your own reports) stay free. A premium subscription unlocks your full trip, expense and border-crossing history, PDF exports, and extra map tools such as saving new Goldmine neighborhoods and expanded-area walkability search.
Which platforms is BorderBudget available on?
BorderBudget is available on iPhone and iPad through the App Store and on Android through Google Play.
How does the Schengen 90/180 tracker work?
It calculates the rolling limit of 90 days in any 180-day window automatically, based on the trips and country entries you log, so you don't have to count entry and exit stamps by hand. It is a planning aid, so always confirm current entry requirements before you travel.
How are airport wait times measured?
When you are in an airport line, you start a timer for either Security or Passport Control. The two are tracked as separate figures for each airport. The Security figure is measured from the airport door to the gate area, so it reflects a realistic total time to budget. Once you clear the checkpoint, your time contributes to that airport's crowdsourced average for other travelers.
How are work-friendly spots rated?
Travelers submit measured WiFi speed, ambient noise level and outlet availability for cafes and coworking spots. Each spot is graded from those readings, so you can tell at a glance whether it is good for a work session.
Where do the medical cost figures come from?
They are real costs reported by other travelers for specific procedures at specific facilities, not list prices. No receipt photos are required to submit one.
Does BorderBudget work offline?
Yes, for your own data. Trips, expenses and documents are stored on your device and sync to the cloud automatically when you are back online, so you can keep logging expenses without a connection.
What is Lifeline and what happens if I lose my phone abroad?
Lifeline is a free feature that lets you prepare an emergency card before you travel: where you're staying, trusted contacts, optional medical basics, insurance and phone details. If your phone is lost or stolen, you can open the card from any borrowed phone with a share code and PIN, with no app and no account. Sensitive details such as booking references and your phone's IMEI need a second private PIN. The card expires when you choose, after at most one year, and it is deleted if you delete your account. Lifeline is a convenience, not an emergency service, and it cannot contact help for you.
Does BorderBudget track my location all the time?
No. Foreground location is used to show your position on the map and detect city presence for trip tracking. Background location only runs while you have started an airport wait timer, or for the Schengen day counter's country-change detection. It is not used for advertising. See the Privacy Policy for details.
